Betty L. Bookhamer Kidd

Betty was born in Norfolk, Virginia on October 11th 1945 and passed away October 3rd, 2011 after a 10 year battle with cancer. She was the third of four children of CDR. Robert H. and Evelyn G. Bookhamer. Betty is preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother, CPT. Robert H Bookhamer Jr. and sister, Nancy Davis. She is survived by her husband, Dr. T.L. Kidd; sister, Janice Davis and her husband Allen; son, Vic Kerckhoff and his wife Jennifer; step-daughter, Sharlyn Hughston and her husband Paul; grandchildren, Victor and Abigail Kerckhoff and Payton and Samantha Hughston; and nieces and nephews, Devon Carvajal and her husband Michael, Justin Cheek and Garrick Davis and his wife Jennifer.

Betty was part of a Navy family and essentially from everywhere. She grew up in several places like Coco Solo Naval Air Station, Panama, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Coronado Island, and San Jose, California, Vienna, Annandale, Fairfax, Virginia, Newport, R.I She was an accomplished equestrian and had a deep love of animals. Betty graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in nursing.

After moving to Texas she worked at St. Josephs Hospital and then in 1972 started working at Bayshore Hospital in Pasadena. Betty worked in the medical field for over 30 years in various capacities as a registered nurse and office administrator. After retiring in 2007 she and TL were finally able to travel in earnest. While she loved traveling to Canada, Alaska and National Parks throughout the United States she also loved the Texas Hill country. She knew every good restaurant from Bastrop to Fredericksburg and if there was a nice jewelry store in these small town even better.

She was a generous person with her resources, her advice and most of all her love. She will be missed by all.
