Delores Virginia Long Stevenson

Delores Virginia Long Stevenson, a devoted and loving mother, died January 12, 2016. Born November 3, 1934 and raised in “old” Pearland, TX, she was the daughter of an original founding family. She was preceded in death by those parents, Ernest Lowell Long and Dora Davidson Long. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Donna Long Bristow, Ida Long Mundy, Clifton Wayne Long, Ernest Lowell “E.L.” Long, Jr. and Charles Edwin Long. She was also preceded in death by her first husband and love of her life, Robert “Bobby” “Sonny” Wayne Stevenson. He passed away when Delores was pregnant with her fifth child. Already proven to be a strong Texas woman, she started her own business in the 1960’s, a child care center (the first in Pearland), while raising her five sons alone. She later remarried and then additionally raised two stepchildren and her sixth son. During this time she lived in Franklin, TX and managed a number of rental properties both in Franklin and Pearland. She was also predeceased by her husband Dallas Stevenson of La Marque, TX. She was never slowed by adversity, in fact she grew stronger from it. She was of hearty Texas stock and could can, quilt, cook, wallpaper and re-roof a house—whatever task needed to be done, she would figure out how to do it.

She took great delight in her family and grandchildren and embraced her daughters-in-law as her own. After having six sons she welcomed daughters! She was loved by many, including her children and their spouses: Debbie Van Eman Herndon (Paul Wade), Ricki Van Eman, Robert Wayne Stevenson II, Daniel (Danny) Louis Stevenson (Doris), Ernest Paul Stevenson (Colleen), Richard Lee “Rocky” Stevenson (Lydia), Charles Andrew “Chuck” Stevenson and Cary Jene Van Eman, Jr. Her grandchildren will have lasting memories of “Grandma Camp” where they learned to fish, trampoline, light fireworks and eat sugary cereals they weren’t allowed to eat at home. They are: Eric Herndon, Blake Herndon, Sarah Stevenson, Jonathan Stevenson, Lindsey Tallent (Joshua), Toby Stevenson, Matthew Stevenson, Katlyn Stevenson, Carol Stevenson, Anthony Van Eman, Victoria Van Eman, Charles Stevenson, Jr., Kenneth “Jay” Neal, Shannon Woolery, and Tim Jones. Also great grandchildren: Kenna and Christian Herndon, Annabelle and Aidan Herndon, Chaya and Ema Stevenson, Hannah Stevenson, Daryl Stevenson, Stephanie Acosta, Brandon Woolery, Jacob Woolery, Michael Jones, Nicholas Jones and Tessa Anderson. And great, great grandchildren Madelyn Acosta, Erin and Emma Woolery, Taya and Titan Anderson, and Elizabeth Jones

She is also survived by her sister Mary Long Borm (Alfred) and dear sister-in-law Peggy Farthing Long. She will be missed by numerous other friends and family as well as the ladies from Highland Baptist Church in La Marque and Shadycrest Baptist Church in Pearland.

Services will be at Grand View Funeral Home at 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505, 281-479-6076. Visitation will be Friday, January 15, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Joshua Tallent will officiate. Interment and a small graveside ceremony will immediately follow. Pallbearers will her grandsons.
