The second child of Kenneth and Irene Stiles, Doug was born in Pasadena, Texas, on December 4, 1946. He attended Pasadena High School where he graduated in 1967, San Jacinto College, and the ITT Technical Institute where he received a diploma of Computer Aided Drafting and Design.
Doug married the love of his life, Dianna Tichenor, on October 18, 1975. Together they raised their children first in Pasadena before later becoming long-time residents of Deer Park.
A kind, gentle and funny soul, Doug demonstrated a strong work ethic and enjoyed many years at Offenhauser Company and Schuff Steel in Houston, in addition to a period of self-employment. After early years of being active in sports and finessing his bowling talent, he came to love traveling, gaming, metal detecting, and coin and stamp collecting. The passion he had for model trains as a young child only grew stronger after he retired in 2009.
