Frank Leland Glass

Born and raised in Sweetwater, Texas, Frank attended Sweetwater High School, where he played football and ran track. After high school, he attended the University of Texas and Texas Christian University, earning his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Texas.

While attending Texas Christian University, Frank lived in Fort Worth with Doyle Brunson, where he further developed his poker skills—often joking that he taught Brunson how to play. Poker remained a lifelong passion, and Frank enjoyed playing regularly with close friends over the years.

In May of 1961, Frank and his brother Sam Glass opened the Minimax grocery store in La Porte, beginning a long and successful career as grocery store owners and operators. In 1974, Frank and Sam expanded with the opening of Kingwood Minimax, followed by additional locations in Porter, Crockett, Cleveland, Kings Crossing, and two other stores in Houston. Frank and Sam also owned the Clear Creek Inn restaurant in Kemah, which they purchased in 1979, further reflecting Frank’s entrepreneurial drive and deep connection to the community he served.

Frank believed strongly in giving back. He coached the La Porte Cowboys, served on the La Porte School Board, and was an active member of the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce.

Golf was Frank’s greatest passion. A devoted player, he attended The Masters twice and cherished the opportunity to play in Pro-Am tournaments with professional golfers and many great friends over the years—memories he loved to share. He also enjoyed bird hunting, finding joy in time spent outdoors and with friends.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Glass, and his son, Frank Glass Jr.

He is survived by his son, David Glass; his brother, Sam Glass; his sister, Barbara Meyer; grandchildren Kalyn Glass and Pat Glass; and great-granddaughter Kollins Toller.
