Gladys Marie Richards, 86, of Pasadena, Texas, passed away on December 13, 2025. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Gladys was known for her humor, adventurous spirit, and unwavering loyalty to both her family and friends.
Born on September 4, 1939, in Alamo, Texas, she was the daughter of John Raymond and Birdie Ann Posz. Gladys grew up surrounded by family and faith—values that would guide her throughout her life. She married her beloved husband, William “Bill” Richards, and together they shared 30 wonderful years before his passing. Their life together was full of love, laughter, and the joy of raising a family.
Gladys dedicated her early years to being a housewife and mother, raising her children with patience, love, and an unshakable sense of humor. Once her children were grown, she began working for the Pasadena Independent School District, where she remained until her retirement. Known for her bright personality and love of people, she made lifelong friendships.
A woman who loved life’s adventures, Gladys was rarely idle. She was always ready to pack a bag and explore someplace new—often with her circle of treasured friends. She was a proud member of several close-knit friend groups, affectionately known as the “6-Cylinders” and the “YaYa Sisters.” Whether playing cards, dominoes, or marbles, she brought laughter and a sense of fun to every gathering. For over 60 years, she faithfully played in her weekly bridge game, cherishing both the camaraderie and the friendly competition.
Faith was at the center of Gladys’s life. A devout Catholic, she attended daily Mass, participated in her parish’s rosary group and Bible study, and was a devoted member of the Catholic Daughters. She also spent many joyful years as part of the Aggie Moms Club, where she built enduring friendships and continued meeting her fellow members for lunch long after her official involvement had ended.
Gladys is survived by her loving son and daughter, Kermit Richards (Pinky) and Karen Butz (Alan); her daughter-in-love Susan Richards; her son-in-love John Engels; her 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (and counting) who will forever cherish her adventurous spirit; and countless dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Richards, her son William “Ed” Richards, her daughter Janell Engels, and her grandson Bryan Richards.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked to make a donation to Pasadena Community Ministries.
A visitation and rosary will be held on Friday, December 19, at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, 2921 Center St., Deer Park, Texas. The rosary begins at 1:00 p.m., followed by Mass at 2:00 p.m. All who loved Gladys are warmly invited to join in celebrating her remarkable life.
