Born in Rexford, Kansas, on May 14, 1932, to Lou Bertha and Glenn Nickerson, Gloria was raised for most of her life by her cherished grandmother, Etta Mae Curtis, in Houston, Texas. She shared a close bond with her sister, Nadine Braun.
On December 1, 1950, Gloria married the love of her life, Curtis Wilson. Together, they built a beautiful life and family, raising children: Velda, Melinda, Michael, Laura Jean, Sherrie, and Daniel, who passed shortly after birth. Gloria and Curtis's journey in the Air Force took them across the country and beyond, including Newfoundland. After Curtis's discharge in 1958, they settled in Pasadena, Texas, where they raised their family and built a lasting legacy.
Gloria was a pillar of faith and community at First Baptist Church of Pasadena, where she served faithfully for nearly fifty years. She taught Sunday school, volunteered with homebound ministries, vacation Bible school, and eagerly anticipated the church's annual Singing Christmas Tree performance. Her devotion to God was evident in her daily Bible readings and the many devotionals she cherished.
A loving mother and grandmother, Gloria's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by 19 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was an animal lover, a fan of word search puzzles in her later years, and a source of wisdom and warmth to all who knew her.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis, her children, Daniel, Melinda, and Michael, and her grandson, Curtis.
She is survived by her children, Velda and her husband Steve Garrison, Laura Jean and her husband Kim Hodge, Sherrie and her husband Chuck Lewis, daughter-in-law Kathy Wilson, brother and sister in-law, Stanley and Carolyn Wilson.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
