Greg Layne Tollette passed away December 8, 2020 at HCA “Pasadena Bayshore” Hospital, Pasadena, TX. He was battle-weary from his long fight with cancer. Greg believed deeply in God and Heaven. He believed in God as his Savior. He was ready for his next joyful life in Heaven knowing he would arrive into the arms of family and dear friends to show him the way. Greg was born in Houston, TX on October 16, 1962, and lived his entire life in Pasadena TX.
He graduated from Sam Rayburn High School-1982, and completed the four-year technical program in 1987 for Pipefitter through Pipefitter’s Union-Local #211, where he remained active for 33 years, and then retired until 2020.
Greg had a heart of gold as big as the Grand Canyon. He was a very loyal man. He loved his children and grandchildren, his parents, sisters, extended family, and many friends. He would give his shirt off his back to anyone in need. He would show up on moving day. He volunteered for events at his church, and he believed in sharing his bounty with others. One of his greatest gifts to us was his beautiful smile, big hugs, and his willingness to help anyone in need. He had a swift mind, he was good with his hands, and fixing and building things came natural to him.
He spent his lifetime raising three sons, Ryan, Jacob, and Trent as a single father. He changed the diapers, cooked the meals, and kept up with all of the doctor and dentist visits, all the school activities, and homework. One of his greatest joys was being a coach for the boy’s baseball teams in Pasadena Little League. The four of them did a lot of “guy” things, like fishing, hunting for snakes and bugs, putting holes in their new clothes, and wearing unmatched socks. They spent a lot of time dirt biking, and riding go-carts, and just generally getting really dirty. They all cleaned up well for Sunday church services at Grace Church in Clear Lake with pastor Steve Riggle. Greg had himself and the boys in church every Sunday. As a young man, he took many self-improvement classes and worked hard in adult Sunday school classes to learn about his bible, God, and God’s message to him.
Greg made sure his sons spent time with each other as a family. He took them on camping trips, river trips, and skiing in Colorado several times. These were good times for him with his children, family, and friends. One of his greatest joys was cooking. He was a very good cook and made sure to feed his sons well. He would feed the whole neighborhood if he could. He learned some recipes from one of his neighbor ladies, and he was proud when they turned out almost as good as hers.
He was a tireless warrior at work. His co-workers and union buddies have related that he could out work younger men every day and was very proud of it. He was respected for his work ethic. He did not know the word “quit” or “give up”. He was dependable and always on time. It has been said that you could set your watch by him at work. He was funny and liked to tell jokes. He tried to always see the glass half-full and had little patience for slackers. He would always share his lunch.
Greg is loved and he will be missed forever. His memory will be cherished by his sons Ryan Tollette (Vanessa), and Trent Tollette, His Parents: Charles and Frances Tollette, sisters Teri Zepeda, and Tami Andrus (Michael), his grandsons Chance Tollette and Wayne Weaver, and “new” granddaughter Savanna Rose Tollette-Waddel, his nieces: Britni Gilmore, Mikayla and Devin Andrus, Nephews: Nathan Von Tersch, RJ Gilmore, Shane Zepeda, and Patrick Gilmore. He adored his Aunt Patsy, Aunt Joyce, and Uncle Bob from Tampa, Florida and he has many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that loved him and will remember him fondly.
He is predeceased by his son Jacob Tollette, his grandson Landon Tollette, and his grandparents: Samuel and Laura Bass, and Raymond and Annie Bell Tollette, his nephew David Von Tersch, and his very best friend Joe.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to the nurses and doctors at Pasadena Bayshore Hospital ER/ICU and staff who made this difficult time a peaceful passing for Greg and his family.
A debt of gratitude and Thank You is extended to Greg’s entire cancer team at MD Anderson Cancer Center. The professional care and kindness provided to him and his family every day was exceptional.
Funeral Services will be held at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home, Pasadena, TX. Viewing will be December 17, 2020, 5-7pm. Funeral Service will be December 18, 2020 at 2pm in the Chapel. Interment will follow the funeral service.
