Gregory (Greg) Wayne Parker of Houston, Texas, entered into eternal life with all those who have gone before him on September 28, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born in Maywood, California, on March 8, 1947, to Robert Wayne Lee Parker and Alpha Gertrude Garrett Parker.
Greg spent most of his childhood and teen years in the Pacific Northwest, graduating from high school in Portland, Oregon. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle along the coast and through the mountains.
In 1972, Greg moved to Houston, Texas, and began attending Freeway Baptist Church, where he met the love of his life, Sandra Kay Newby. They were married in 1975 and celebrated 50 years of marriage earlier this year. They are the proud parents of two children, Roger Allen and Rhonda Michelle.
Greg had a long career as a supply tech for a NASA contractor at Ellington Field. He was an extremely hardworking and committed worker.
The most important decision Greg ever made was to trust in Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. Greg enjoyed being with his church family, worshiping the Lord, and reading Scripture. As he was unable to read later in life, Sandra would spend time reading the Word to him.
Greg and Sandra’s favorite Scripture passage is Proverbs 3:5-6. It reads: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
He and Sandra have been faithful members of Underwood Baptist Church since 2009. They truly believe their church family is their family.
Greg was also passionate about attending classic car shows, taking many pictures of the cars, collecting model cars, and watching Westerns.
He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Leon Parker, his mother, Alpha Garrett Parker, and sisters Donna and Cheryl.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra Kay Parker; his son, Roger, and wife Karla of League City, Texas; daughter, Rhonda, and husband Wes of Mont Belvieu, Texas; granddaughters Riley Grace Parker, Cadence Michelle, Kylie Dyane, and Cambridge Kay Hinote.
Greg is also survived by his niece, Paula Pearce, and her husband Brian of Kingwood, Texas; and great-nephew and nieces Austin Michael, Alyssa Dawn, and Alexis Nicole Pearce.
On Monday, October 6, 2025, visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m. Both will be held at Underwood Baptist Church, 2104 Underwood Road, La Porte, Texas 77571, with Pastor Danny Traxler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Underwood Baptist Church Building Fund. You may give to this fund by going to https://www.underwoodbaptistchurch.org/giving/
