My sincere sympathy and condolences to the family in the passing of Gretchen. I'm so glad to learn of the positive influence and fullness of her life. I knew Gretchen because she was a younger sister of my best friend in high school. The Barnes family had an enriching effect on my life and I'm sure Gretchen will be missed my many.
Sincerely,
Virginia Hensley Wilke

Gretchen was a teacher and leader through and through. I was lucky enough to have her as a part of my life for over 25 years. She got me through the tough teenage years being a listening ear and guiding me when I didn't want to hear what my parents had to say. Gretchen inspired me to get my degree in early childhood development and family studies. The day I got married she was right there to make sure nothing messed up the day even being a hostess for the reception. Finally the day came that I found out I was pregnant I asked her to be there when they did the big ultrasound. She told me over and over of how honored she was to be there with us. I then told her that it was my honor to have her there with me as I experienced yet another milestone in my life. The only thing Gretchen did not teach me how to do is live in a world with out her. I will always keep her in my heart and her memory alive.
