Jeff Thomas Yates, 47, of La Porte, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at his residence. He was born on November 15, 1977, in Pasadena, Texas, to Vicki Ann Yates and the late Thomas Lee Yates, Jr. Jeff proudly graduated from La Porte High School class of 1996. He made his career as a technical outside sales specialist for MRC Global where he absolutely loved his job.
Jeff pursued many interests, but his favorite by far was coaching and supporting his boys on either the football or baseball field. To say he was proud of his boys is a giant understatement. When he and his wife blended families, he accepted and loved his step kids just as they were his own, loving and supporting them with that same pride and support. Jeff also enjoyed playing golf with buddies, clients (who quickly became friends), and family. He loved hunting on the family farm in Buffalo and always welcomed the invitation to go fishing. Jeff had a passion for the University of Texas Longhorns (but also supported BU for the sake of his step-kids). He loved to dance and could steal the show on any dance floor. He was also a jokester and was known for his goofiness. The room often lit up when he walked in with his lively personality. Jeff was a social butterfly who never met a stranger. Jeff had a gorgeous smile and the most piercing blue eyes one would ever see.
Jeff was the true definition of a gentleman and worked hard to instill that in his children. He was a wonderful husband, father, stepfather, son, brother and friend to many. He was generous, kind and caring. Jeff was extremely giving and would jump at the opportunity to help anyone in need.
Jeff’s family was the most important thing in his life, and he found his greatest joy in spending precious time with them. He radiated with love for his wife, whom was truly the love of his life. He was either bragging about his, “amazing, beautiful wife” (his words), or he would be telling stories about his boys’ latest sports accomplishments. His love for his family was big and expanded throughout its entirety.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father; his maternal grandparents Aubrey Parker and Ruby Loretta Barrett; and his paternal grandfather Thomas Lee Yates, Sr. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife Julee; his children Trace Yates, Trent Yates, Jacob Genaro and Jenna Genaro; his siblings Clint Yates, Leslie Riggle and husband Mike, Casey Yates and significant other Jamie Carter; his parents Joseph & Vicki Moon; his paternal grandmother Granny June Yates; his numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
At the family’s request they ask that those who join them in celebrating Jeff’s life to please wear what most reminds you of him (UT gear, sports jerseys, or boots & hat).
In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made in Jeff’s honor to the Epilepsy Foundation: https://give.eftx.org/give/191616/#!/donation/checkout
