Joan Furlow

Joan Patricia Furlow of La Porte, Texas passed away on Wednesday, September 7. Joan was born March 18, 1934 in Smith County, near Troup, Texas. Her parents were Aubrey Thompson and Zorene Garrett Thompson. She was one of 5 sisters who all preceded her in death. She was married to James Welton Furlow on November 1, 1952. They were married for 64 years. She leaves behind husband James and 4 children, David Furlow and wife Janet, Sue Sabin and husband Harold, Joe Furlow and wife Irene, and Lana Listi and husband Michael. Joan and James have 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 more on the way very shortly. She was retired from La Porte ISD as a food service manager of 25 years. She also served as the church pianist for Lomax Baptist Church for many years. James and Joan were long time members of First Baptist Church Pasadena. There she enjoyed playing the piano in her Sunday school class as well as singing with the Joy Singers.

Visitation will be Friday, September 09, 2016 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505. A celebration of her life will be Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 11:00am in the chapel of First Baptist Church-Pasadena, 7500 West Fairmont Parkway, Pasadena, Texas 77505, with Dr. Jon Redmond officiating.
