It is with heavy hearts and a wealth of love and fond memories that we announce the passing of Joshua Rayne Tolliver on May 24, 2022. Taken from us unexpectedly, but certainly not before he could leave a profound impact on his family, community, and country, Josh’s absence will be felt eternally.
Josh was born on January 27, 1985, to Cindy Reynolds and Rickie Dean Tolliver. He attended South Houston high school and graduated in 2004. Shortly after, in 2005, he enlisted in the Navy, excelled in field medical school, and served his country exemplarily as a corpsmen. Admired by his colleagues and commended by leadership, Josh earned numerous awards for his service, including an Iraq Campaign Medal accompanied with a Fleet Marine Force Combat Operation Device and a Bronze Star for his time on deployment in an active combat environment. It was then the greatest honor of Josh’s military career to be chosen as a medic aide for President George H. W. Bush senior (41) due to his competency and compassion as a health care provider. In this role, Josh was personally thanked and celebrated by the Bush family for his excellent service to their family.
While continuing to serve in the Naval Reserves, Josh applied his expertise as a Corpsman to emergency departments in the greater Houston area to include Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital and Signature Care Emergency Room. To his friends and coworkers, Josh embodied the fun loving, easy-going friend with a contagious sense of humor that any person would be so fortunate to have around. Authentic, true to his values, and open in his love for his friends, family, and country, Josh was a blessing and a joy to be around whether it was at cracking jokes or making everyone laugh with his “dance moves.” Many probably remember him at home jamming to his favorite Tool album and grabbing you another drink. He took serious pride in his work and made every effort to better himself. His family and friends would all agree that he may look tough, but he had a tender heart –a heart of gold.
It was then never a surprise that when he met the love of his life Olivia Paredes, they would ultimately be compelled to embrace each other with everyone around them witnessing the love and dedication that they shared.
He shared his beliefs with others, faced his challenges, and accomplished everything he put his mind to. Above all, Josh knew his creator. We know he is now with Him and at peace, and we pray that we will all see him again when it is time.
It is thus with great grief that for now we say goodbye to our beloved Josh who was taken from us far too soon. His memories will live on through all of us in our hearts, and we will all have another angel looking down on us.
Josh is survived by his family including his wife Olivia Paredes Tolliver, his mother Cindy Reynolds, his father Rickie Dean Tolliver, his Aunts Beverly Echols and Stephanie Hablinski, his stepdad Steve Simmons his step- sister Rebecca Simmons, his step brother Golden Simmons and his step-sister Victoria Tolliver.
