Joyce Marie Bland, 85, passed away on June 27, 2021. She was born April 11, 1936 in Galena Park, Texas to Walker Walter and Nina M. Jacobson Ethredge. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Walker and Nina Ethredge; husband Bobby W. Bland, and her brother Wallace Ethredge.
Joyce graduated from Galena Park High School in 1954 and married Bobby W. Bland on June 16, 1954. Bobby was drafted into the US Army and was stationed in various locations all over the country. She supported her husband while he finished college and dental school and ultimately opening his dental practice in Pasadena. Joyce worked in his dental office for five years before his passing.
She was very active in her community volunteering with the Pasadena Rodeo and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. She was the Bloody Mary Queen at the Houston rodeo BBQ Committee; everyone loved them. She volunteered with the Junior Forum where she raised funds to support multiple projects. Joyce was a City of Pasadena Diplomat, a member of the Pasadena Citizens Police Academy (which she loved), and she volunteered with the Pasadena Community Ministry food pantry. She also volunteered for the campaign to elect Mayor Jeff Wagner.
Joyce loved being a homemaker and working in her yard and her home. One of her favorite things was to have her friends and family over. In fact, Joyce hosted at least two weddings at her home.
Left behind to treasure memories of Joyce are her daughter Roni Bland Cobb and her son Brett Bland; grandchildren Kira Cobb, Chase Cobb, Wade Bland and wife Keely, and Jacob Bland; great grandchildren Makayla, Mason. Aubrey, Adalyn, Daisy, and one on the way along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Joyce's memory.
