Maxine was born on August 24, 1940 to Max and Alvina Roemer in Burton, Texas. After Maxine graduated from Reagan High School in 1958, she went to work at Lambert Paint Company and then was employed by RB Everett Construction Equipment Company, until she retired. Maxine also spent countless hours volunteering for MD Anderson Cancer Center.
In 1962 Maxine met Ron Baker at Esquire Ball Room. Ron spotted Maxine on an evening out and they quickly fell in love and got married on October 19, 1962. Not only did Ron fall in love with Maxine but he fell deeply in love with Maxine’s 4 year old daughter Debra Lynn. Ron and Maxine got married on October 19, 1962. It was a joyous day and the start of a 6 decade old love story. Ron adopted Debra and she became Debra Lynn Baker.
Following retirement, Maxine was a member of United Methodist Campers. In addition to campouts with the United Methodist Campers, Ron and Maxine spent Summers traveling the country in their motorhome. Despite traveling throughout the country, Maxine’s favorite place to travel was the Amish Country and she always wanted to return on their summer travels. Maxine was an avid quilter and thoroughly enjoyed her quilting bee. Several of her quilts were submitted and placed in local quilt shows. Retirement didn’t slow her down. She loved to fish and spent a lot of time fishing on Lake Livingston. With their bare hands, Maxine and Ron built a lake house in Livingston. Years of love, laughter and memories were created at the lake house.
For years Maxine was a member of Hope Community United Methodist. She helped run a thrift store at the church and served as a bookkeeper. Recently, Maxine became a member at First United Methodist Church in Pearland. She was part of the Searchers Sunday School Class.
Maxine was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She took pride in being Me Maw and loved spending time with her family. For years she would cook and host a Sunday family dinner. Years of memories were made around her antique dining room table. She was always laughing the most infectious laugh. When you were in her presence, you instantly felt the love and kindness that filled her.
Maxine was preceded in death by parents, Max and Alvine Roemer, brother Vernon Fred Roemer, sister in laws, Florine and Georgia Roemer and nephew Douglas Roemer.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years Ron Baker. She was an amazing mother to Debbie Henson and son-in-law Wesley Henson. A proud Grandmother to Michelle Wright (husband Adam), Matt Baker and Kelli Palermo (husband Chris). Her love and legacy continue through her great-grandchildren Haylee and Ethan Wright, Kiersten and Caleb Baker, and Kylie and Hayden Palermo. She is also remembered by her brothers Harold Roemer, Charles Roemer (wife Sidsel), sister in love Vickie, brother in love Jerry and the nieces and nephew she loved like her own children.
Her warmth, big heart, welcoming nature, and generous spirit will be missed tremendously.
