Oleta Coppin

Our dear grandmother, Oleta Wenona Coppin (Keeton), passed away on October 24, 2012. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Glen Arthur Coppin and her wonderful son, Gary Lindell Coppin; her parents Goldie Freesilver Crawford Keeton and Elzy Newton Keeton; brother Thomas Dearl Keeton (1944 in WWII); sisters Joyce Keeton McWhorter (1989) and Geneva Keeton Hogue (2002).

Oleta is survived by her grandsons Gary Wayne and wife Anissa (parents of Megan, Tara and Austin); Glen Austin and wife Carrie (parents of Sadie); Richard Ferrell and wife Jennifer (parents of Maddie, Valerie, Ian and Matthew). Her nieces and nephews Mona McWhorter (parent of Keeton), Tom McWhorter (parent of Darryl), Randy Hogue and wife Barrie (parents of Meg and Mary), Carol Bullion and husband Roy (parents of Jessica and Brian), and Todd Hogue and wife Alesha.

Oleta was born in Pearl, Texas and graduated from Business College and pursued her career in banking. She worked her way up from head cashier to loan officer, then retired a Vice President of First National Bank of La Feria. She married the love of her life in her late teens and never remarried. For many years, the happy couple lived on a citrus orchard with their son in La Feria. They spent time at their second home in Arroya when they wanted to get away and go fishing or camping. They enjoyed life to its fullest. When Oleta's husband passed away in 1979, she and her sister Joyce, moved to Pasadena to be near their youngest sister, Geneva. Eventually, she purchased a home in Pasadena with her son, Gary and helped raise his teenage sons, Gary Wayne and Glen.

For the last 10 years of her life, she has resided at Faith Memorial Nursing Home in Pasadena, Texas. Oleta was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2002. She always had a smile on her face or would wink at you when you asked her a question. She was a strong, vibrant woman who was kind and cherished her family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Grand View Funeral Home. Oleta's Committal will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, Texas.
