

A beloved veteran, dedicated physician, and devoted family man. Dr. Eichelberger passed away peacefully on October 6th at the age of 94, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 20, 1929, Dr. Eichelberger’s journey through life was marked by commitment to his country, a passion for healing, and an unwavering dedication to his family.
He earned a Biology Degree from the prestigious University of Texas and proceeded to become a Pharmacist working for Blacks Pharmacy. Feeling he wanted more, he entered the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston and earned his Medical Degree. He proudly served our nation in the Air Force as a Flight Surgeon.
In 1962, Dr. Eichelberger embarked on a lifelong mission to provide compassionate and expert medical care to the Baytown community. He and two other Physicians started the original Baytown Hospital on Defee Street which was later relocated and expanded to the Baytown Hospital on Alexander Drive.
For nearly six decades, he devoted himself to his patients, earning their trust and respect through his exceptional medical knowledge and caring bedside manner, retiring at the age of 88.
His dedication to his patients was matched only by his commitment to the dedicated and cherished nurses and staff who stood by his side throughout his distinguished career.
His legacy as a physician will be remembered for generations to come.
Dr. Eichelberger’s commitment to excellence extended beyond his medical practice.
He was a loving and devoted husband to his late wife, Reba, and a pillar of strength to his children and grandchildren.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Eichelberger had a zest for adventure. He enjoyed taking to the skies as a pilot.
His passion for snow skiing began in 1966 where he made annual trips to Vail, Colorado, until the mid-1980’s.
He immersed himself in the thrill of hunting, attending his last Pheasant Hunt in October of 2019.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dr. Philip T. Eichelberger, Jr. will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Grand View Funeral Home with visitation starting at 1 pm. Burial will follow the service at Grand View & Memorial Park in Bethany Cemetery.
