Rosa Mae Gallik passed away peacefully at her home in Deer Park, Texas, on February 25, 2026, with her loving children surrounding her. Born January 6, 1931, in Highlands, Texas, to Annie Mae and Madison C. Norris, Rosa lived a long, beautiful life rooted in love, faith, family, and service.
Rosa and her older brother, F.C. (Francis Ceal), enjoyed a carefree childhood along the banks of the San Jacinto River, where they spent their days dreaming up adventures and exploring the world around them.
A bright and eager student, Rosa began grade school a year early at her mother’s insistence and quickly excelled. Education remained deeply important to her throughout her life. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, she attended a secretarial business school in downtown Houston and began her career working as a secretary for several organizations.
Eventually, Rosa became one of the few civilian employees working directly for the commanding officer at the San Jacinto Ordnance Depot in Channelview, Texas. It was there that she met a dashingly handsome Army reservist, Leonard S. Gallik, a WWII veteran who fought from Normandy all the way to Cheb, Czechoslovakia, in Patton’s Third Army and had returned to work for Standard Oil of Indiana. They fell in love, married, and began their life together in an apartment in Baytown, welcoming their first son, Richard. Soon after, they built their family home in Deer Park so Leonard could be close to his work at Shell Oil Company, and their family grew with the arrival of their children, Mark, Patty, and Judy.
Rosa treasured her role as a mother and loved staying home with her four children during their early years. Once they were all in school, she returned to work with Deer Park Independent School District as a substitute in administrative roles. In time, she became a full-time Language Arts teacher’s aide at Deer Park Junior High School, later moving to the front office and eventually serving as the principal's administrative assistant and bookkeeper. Rosa devoted 25 years to Deer Park Junior High before retiring in 1993.
For more than 70 years, Rosa was a faithful member of Deer Park United Methodist Church, where she shared her beautiful soprano voice as a choir member and soloist. She also served as choir director for several years and was a dedicated member of the Altar Guild. Her church community was a cherished part of her life.
Rosa found joy in creativity and caregiving. She loved sewing, crocheting, and volunteering for her children’s school and extracurricular activities. In retirement, she joined quilting groups at the Maxwell Adult Center and at her church, where she perfected the art of quilting and generously shared her skills and wisdom. Throughout her life, she blessed countless people with her handmade quilts, afghans, and scarves—each one crafted with love.
Rosa is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard S. Gallik; her son, Richard S. Gallik; her parents, Annie Mae and Madison C. Norris; her brother, F.C. Norris, and his wife, Betty.
She leaves behind a family who loves her dearly and will cherish her memory always:
her children, Mark Gallik, Patricia Jonesi, and Judy Rohan;
her son in laws, Marcus Jonesi and Dennis Rohan;
her daughter in law, Laura Gallik;
her grandchildren, Stephen Gallik, Kara Rohan, Aaron Rohan, and Cristen Jonesi;
her five great grandchildren, Jaxson, Jaryson, Charleigh, Jakobie, and Stevie Jo;
and her nephews, Steve, Mike, Greg, and Chris Norris.
Rosa’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the medical and support staff on the third floor of HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast for the wonderful care they provided during her hospital stay, and to her hospice nurses and aides — Mercedes, Jessica, and Celeste — and Chaplain John for their loving and tender care. You are truly angels on earth.
