Samuel “Buddy” Shurtleff, 88, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026. Born on November 7, 1937, in Lampasas, Texas, Buddy lived a life defined by faith, family, hard work, and enduring love.
Buddy grew up on a farm in Lampasas County where he learned the value of hard work. He milked cows, plowed fields, and all the other farm work. As an adult he continued to work hard in the paving and road building industry.
The hallmark of Buddy’s life was love. He shared a beautiful 65-year marriage with his beloved wife, Pamela A. Shurtleff. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Lisa K. Lisk (Gene), and his son, Samuel H. Shurtleff II (Terri). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Erin Hopple; Holly A. Reyna (Joe Angel); Samantha Finnen (Taylor); Synthia Kinnard (Dylan); Laura Nguyen (Thang); Bradley Jones (Haley); and Christopher Jones. His legacy continues through his treasured great-grandchildren: Joe Angel Reyna III, Derek Arenivaz, Lailah Reyna, Elliot Baldauf, Chloe Baldauf, Olivia Finnen, Elbie Jones, Graham Jones, Camille Jones, Khoa Nguyen, and Hana Nguyen. He is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Robert O. and Ethel England Shurtleff; his brother, Robert T. Shurtleff; and his sister-in-law, Raye M. Elliott.
He loved to keep in contact with as many people as possible, including family members and friends from as far back as elementary school, even until his last week here.
He loved the Lord Jesus, and His church, and the teaching of the Word of God. His passion was music, including old country music and bluegrass, but especially gospel music and hymns. Later in life he enjoyed building guitars. The highlight of that hobby was building some for his granddaughters.
His earthly life continues to bless the hearts and lives of all those who knew him.
