Samuel "Sammy" G. West

Sammy married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Lee O’Neill West, whom he met retaking algebra in summer school in Amarillo and married on November 12, 1965. After the birth of their daughter Dawn Renee, Sam moved his family to Pasadena where he got a job as a pipe fitter at Shell Oil Company, working there for 30 plus years until retirement. Tony soon joined the family and as they grew, the Wests purchased property and a home in Lomax (La Porte, Texas), where both he and Sandy lived until his dementia and her illness took her in December of 2023.

Sammy, also known as Dad, Pawpaw, and Uncle Sam to his loved ones, enjoyed gardening, building, fishing, and telling stories. He made sure to diligently tend to his property and the plants and animals that resided there, mend any car, appliance, or building, and care for his wife, children, and grandchildren until the day his mind wouldn’t let him anymore.

Sam is survived by his daughter, Renee West Robson and son-in-law, Steven Robson, his son, Anthony West, and his grandchildren, Rebecca Robson, Luke Robson and his wife Grace Kelly Robson, and Garrett West. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra West, mother, Mamie West, father, Homer West, and siblings Ovis West, Oudia Walker, Loretta Jones, and Pat Goodin.

A visitation will be held at Grand View Funeral Home, located at 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas, 77505, on March 26, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. A Celebration of Life will follow starting at 10:00 am. Immediately following, he will be laid to rest at Grand View Memorial Park.
