Wayne Arthur Cain, devoted husband, loving father, and dear friend to so many was born on June 8th, 1942 in Petoskey, Michigan. He passed away on August 7th, 2020 in the presence of those who loved him most.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 48 years, Debra; his children, Alice and Arthur Hults, Steven and Bianca Cain, and Darren and Kathryn Cain; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; siblings Ronald Cain, Larry Cain, and Jan Marshall. He is predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Marie Overturf.
Wayne was a family man first, sacrificing his time to work long hours and provide for his family. He retired from Albemarle Corporation after 38 years, rising from a modest associate to the most celebrated and respected senior operator in the plant. Despite the long hours, he was always present and involved in the lives of his children. His work ethic and outlook on life inspired his children to challenge themselves, make their own success, and start families that will carry his legacy forward.
He was most proud of his children. He coached both of his son’s youth soccer teams for over 10 years at the local YMCA, and baseball for many years at the local ball fields. His soccer teams, named “The Outlaws” were a dominant force of nature, and are still feared to this day. He loved to travel, spending many summers on long road trips with his family. His daughter Alice credits him with her love of travel. Later in life, his Grandchildren would become his light. They loved their “Papaw.”
Outside of his devotion to his family, Wayne was best known for his sense of humor. He had many catchphrases including “Hi there”, “Be Somebody”, “Do you give senior discounts?”, and “I’m going to get you a raise”among countless others. His infectious smile and charismatic demeanor resonated with everyone he met. Wayne loved to attend all the grandchildren’s events, from sports to band recitals. On occasion, he and Debra would press their luck at the casino.
Wayne will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy will be carried on by his family, and from the stories and admiration from his friends.
