Gertrude graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1941. She then went to work for the Civil Defense as a stenographer from 1942-1945 and then retired from Yates County Dept. of Social Services in December of 1978. She married Leonard Casteel on October 24th, 1959 in the United Methodist Church.
She loved to travel extensively with her late husband and then later with Kay Venture. She was a lover of animals. She enjoyed collecting holiday decorations, owls and lighthouses. She was an avid football fan and the NY Giants was her favorite team.
Gertrude is survived by her godson Duane Potter; many close friends including; Gina Lerch, Mike Lerch, Brian Lerch, Anne & Marty Olmstead, Toni Hobart, Cindy & Chuck Champlin, and Margaret Koch.
Gertrude was preceased by her husband Leonard Casteel; mother Flossie Perry;father Arthur Wren; friends Leonard & Marlene Lerch, and her cousin Sarah Wren; as well as several other cousins.
Visitation for Gertrude will be held Friday, July 6, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Townsend Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 East Elm Street, Penn Yan, New York 14527. A funeral service will occur Friday, July 6, 2018 at 3:00 PM, at the funeral home. An interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan, New York at the convenience of her friends.
