Armando Vela, age 67, of Edinburg, Tx passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, July 8, 2022. Armando was born to Andres Vela Sr and Maria Soliz of Pharr, Texas.
He graduated from PSJA High School in 1974. Armando was a devoted husband and family man and always worked to provide.
In his youth, Armando was a National Forest Systems Firefighter in the State of Idaho. His job was to prevent wild fires from raging out of control. Shortly after, he and his wife Consuelo moved to the State of Ohio where he became a factory worker and they began starting a family. Upon returning back to Texas, Armando was a delivery driver for Golden Jersey Creamery and owned a small lawn service business. It was not uncommon for him to work 12 hours days, weekends, and odd jobs here and there to provide for his family. Years later, after working for the freight forwarding company Crate and Fly, he took the experience and skills he learned in logistics and delivery service with him to pursue his dream of owning and operating his own Freight Forwarding company Jet Express, which he ran successfully for several years. Armando, most recently was a long-time employee of the City of Edinburg as a Pro Shop Attendant for the Ebony Municipal Golf Course where he was known by friends as “Mando Magic.” Armando’s passion was in the game of golf. In his younger years, it was quite common to see him and his friends tee’ing off at sunrise. It was a game he also taught and shared with his sons, particularly Armando Jr where both spend several Springs and Summers playing in Ebony’s Wednesdays evening “Sun Downers.” Armando’s sense of humor, charm, love, and friendship will be missed by all those that had the honor of knowing him.
In 2015, Armando was a kidney transplant recipient in which the procedure was performed wonderfully by the staff at University Hospital in San Antonio, TX. With this new kidney, Armando had a new lease on life and allowed him to spend more precious and valuable time with his family and friends. The Vela family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses, technicians, and any support staff that have treated him during routine follow ups throughout the years.
Armando is survived by his mother Maria Soliz Vela. His wife of 46 years, Consuelo Molina Vela; his sons Armando Vela Jr and Esteban Andres Vela; his daughter; Marlisa Ann Zamora (Rudy), two sisters; Ramona (Rueben) Garza, and Juana (Rogelio) Rivera, and brother; Andres (Enriqueta) Vela, and sister-in-law Juila Vela.
