Catalina ("Catarina") Gomez Trevino, a licensed vocational nurse for over 50 years, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 13, 2022. She was 82. Cathy, as she was fondly known by her family and friends, was born on April 13, 1940, in McAllen, TX, lived in San Juan, TX, for sixty years, and then spent her remaining years in Alamo, Texas.
She was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista de San Juan, TX; Trinity Worship Center of Pharr, TX; and finally, Iglesia Bautista Alfa Omega of San Juan, TX. She served in the church choir for the former two. Cathy deeply loved Jesus Christ, her family, and sharing the Word of God with those around her. In fact, Cathy hosted Vacation Bible School at her home on Ebony St. in San Juan, TX, where all the neighborhood kids were treated to her Kool-Aid, which was made with a pound of sugar and pineapple juice, and Mexican cookies. In her later years, she hosted Bible study at her home on Mesquite St. in San Juan, TX, with members of her life group from Trinity Worship Center. When she was not reading her Bible or attending church, Cathy enjoyed the sweet aroma of gardenia flowers, pan dulce with coffee, and singing Bible hymns. Her favorites were: "Revelation Song," "Shout To The Lord," "El Shaddai," "Lord I Lift Your Name on High," and "Un Dia La Vez" ("One day at a time"), just to name a few.
Cathy is survived by her children Ruth Ann Trevino Zamarripa of Alamo, TX; Philip Anthony Trevino of McAllen, TX; and Guillermo "Will" Samuel Trevino (Tamara) of Brownsville, TX; grandchildren Michelle Nicole Padilla of Donna, TX; Marie Cruz Zamarripa Schlieper (Andrew) of Alamo, TX; Laura Elizabeth Zamarripa of Alamo, TX; Pedro Samuel Trevino of Brownsville, TX; and Lorelai Olivia Trevino of Brownsville, TX; ex-husband, Guadalupe Trevino of San Juan, TX; siblings Ruth G. Figueroa of New Orleans, LA; Benjamin Gonzales (Alice) of Salamanca, NY; Amelia G. Valencia (Rogelio) of Highland, UT; Aurora G. Casarez of Las Vegas, NV; Maria G. Guerra (Richard) of New Orleans, LA; Dolores G. Bryant (William) of Mission, TX; Fidel Gomez of Las Vegas, NV; Susana G. Arce (Thomas) of Brownsville, TX; Heriberto Gomez (Marta) of Ricardo, TX; and numerous beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Francisco R. Gomez; her mother, Maria Del Refugio Almendariz; her stepmother, María Gala Barraza Gómez; siblings Ana Dias, Aurora Gomez, Josefina Carrasco, Bertha G. Flores, Maria G. Chavez, Francisco Gomez, Jr., Joel Gomez, and Juan Gomez.
Relatives and friends of the family are welcome to attend the celebration of her homecoming with a visitation on Thursday, October 20, 2022, starting at 10:00 AM and a Chapel Service at 2:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel, Pharr, TX.
