Raul Cavazos, son of Leonor and Severo Cavazos, aged 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on August 30, 2024. A devoted husband, father of eight, and friend to many, Raul lived a life marked by hard work, grit, and loyalty.
Born on January 21, 1936, Raul was a true cowboy in a modern world. His values were built on hard work, a love for the land, and a deep dedication to providing for his wife Ofelia Cavazos and their future. For over six decades, Raul built a life that balanced his passion for work with his love of hunting, the outdoors offering him solace and adventure.
Raul's relationship with money was simple—he worked tirelessly for it, not for the sake of wealth, but because it was a means of securing a future for those he loved. He was known to his family and friends as a man who would give the shirt off his back, yet his dedication to business was equally unwavering. Whether behind the wheel of his truck visiting a client or closing on a sale, Raul was happiest when busy.
Family was Raul’s bedrock. His eight children, the product of his first marriage to Oralia Cavazos, were his pride and joy. He taught them the value of hard work, honesty, and community. Visits were filled with laughter, stories, and advice. His grandchildren will remember him as a storyteller and someone who always had time for them, despite the demands of his other passions.
Friends and family alike will remember Raul as a man of his word, fiercely independent, and unapologetically old-fashioned. His cowboy hats and boots were always at the ready, a reminder of the cowboy spirit that never left him. Raul's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, perseverance, and strength will live on through his family and the friendships he nurtured.
Preceded in death by his wife, Ofelia Cavazos; his son, Daniel Cavazos.
Mr. Cavazos is survived by his loving children, Nora (Richard) Oyaas, Diana (Joe) Padilla, Rene Cavazos, Raul (Aida) Cavazos, Noel (Valerie) Cavazos, MaryAnn Cavazos, Michael (Rita) Cavazos; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Severo and Baldemar Cavazos; extended family members and countless friends who will forever cherish the memories they made together.
Ride on, cowboy. You'll always be with us.
