Refugio Jose Garcia Jr., a beloved resident of Pharr, Texas, passed away on January 10, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on April 26, 1951, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Refugio was the cherished son of the late Refugio and Edecia Garcia. He was one of 14 siblings, a family that shaped his early years and provided a foundation of love and support.

Refugio, known for his reflective nature, had a profound love for travel, particularly to the fields of Idaho where he worked diligently. His career eventually led him to truck driving, a profession that allowed him to continue exploring and experiencing the world around him.

A man of simple pleasures, Refugio found immense joy in the company of his grandchildren, delighting in their presence and the shared moments of looking through photographs. His stories of trips to Idaho were a testament to his adventurous spirit and the fond memories he cherished.

Refugio is survived by his devoted wife, Maria T. Garcia, and his loving children, Benito A. Garcia, Maria T. Garcia (Eloy Saenz), Edecia G. Garcia (Eddie Villanueva), and Refugio Garcia III (Ressa Garza). He was preceded in death by his father, Refugio Garcia, his mother, Edecia Garcia, his brother, Salvador Garcia, his granddaughter, Allyson Garcia, his daughter, Angelita Garcia, and his brother, Arturo Garza. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and a large extended family of siblings.

The family will hold a visitation on January 14, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley, located at 4607 North Sugar Road, Pharr, TX 78577. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm at the same venue.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on January 15, 2026, at 10:00 am at St Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 122 W Hawk Ave, Pharr, TX 78577. Following the mass, Refugio will be laid to rest at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens, 4607 N Sugar Rd, Pharr, TX 78577, at 11:00 am.
