Roel Ruben Trevino entered eternal rest on February 20, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on October 9, 1941, Roel's journey began with humble roots, yet through perseverance and an ardent desire to excel, he carved a path marked by impressive milestones and indelible contributions to his community.
An avid lover of baseball, Roel not only played the game but lived it, representing his state with distinction under the banner of the American Legion Baseball. His leadership abilities shone brightly during his youthful years as he served as the student council president at PSJA, pioneering as one of the first Hispanic leaders in that role. His pursuit of excellence continued at St. Mary's School of Law where his dedication earned him the honor of graduating top of his class—an early indication of the legal acumen he would wield throughout his career. Roel brought this same level of excellence to each avenue he ventured into, from being a justice of the peace in his 20s to navigating a variety of professions including real estate, teaching, selling insurance, conducting funeral work, owning a business, and ultimately, his lifelong passion as an attorney.
For 48 years, Roel stood as a beacon of guidance and integrity in the legal community, garnering the respect of fellow attorneys, co-workers, and most importantly, the clients he often represented pro bono. His belief in justice and rights was not merely professional; it was deeply personal. Roel took his duty serious, provided for his family with unwavering dedication, and acted as a generous and powerful pillar of strength. Confident and commanding, yet equally compassionate and loving, Roel instilled the values of sportsmanship and resilience by teaching his boys to play baseball, just as he had done with such great skill. As the family historian, he wove the threads of their legacy with a love for reading and lifelong learning, ensuring that the Trevino story would be passed on through intelligent discourse and remembrance.
Most tenderly, Roel will be remembered for the love story he shared with his beloved wife, Amalia. Together since August 1969, their partnership was a testament to devotion and mutual respect. Roel Ruben Trevino's life story is one of impact, integrity, and inspiration—a tale that will be retold with admiration by all who had the privilege to know him. His legacy will continue to illuminate the paths of those he touched, as an eternal reminder of what it means to live a life in service to one's principles and to one's family.
