

He was born on August 16, 1939 in Columbus, Georgia to Thomas and Mary McRae Brogdon. Dick graduated Baker High School and entered the U.S. Army. Richard (Dick) Brogdon retired as a Chief and earned his Master’s Degree. Richard taught at Kendrick High School, Baker High School, and Blanchard Elementary as an educator. He believed to teach a child was to influence the future of the world. He was also very active in the Boy Scouts of America where he received the rank of Eagle Scout.
Richard was a Master Mason and a member in good standing of Ft. Benning Masonic Lodge #579, serving as Worshipful Master and Secretary and member of James E. Miller Daylight Lodge #760 in Columbus. He was also a member of many other Masonic appendant bodies including York Rite Masons, a 33rd Degree Scottish Right Mason of the Valley of Columbus, and Past President of National Sojourners Chapter #8. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the U.S. Army never left him as friends and family will attest.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Thomas and Mary McRae Brogdon, daughter; Judy Brogdon, and grandson; Michael R. Brogdon.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years; Ellen Virginia Case Brogdon, his sister; Wanda Brogdon Korytoski, granddaughter; Katie Burdeshaw, one son; George Francis Brogdon (Leigh Anne), and two great-grandchildren; Colton and Emma Burdeshaw.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 3770 US-431, Phenix City, AL 36868. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 2:00 in the Lakewood Hall.
