Georgeanna Byard “Georgia” Young, 77, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025 at Piedmont Midtown Hospital in Columbus, Georgia. She was born in Columbus, Georgia on April 3, 1947 to the late Ruth Powers Byard and Thomas R. Byard. Georgia married the love of her life, Ronald L. “Ronnie” Young together they raised three amazing children, Randy, Rhonda, and Debbie. She was the matriarch of her family; she loved deeply and strong providing life lessons to all she nurtured.
Georgia was a very loving, caring, compassionate, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her life revolved around her family and it was reflected in her family values she instilled throughout. She was Christian by faith, she was a member of Crawford Methodist Church. Georgia also enjoyed and loved Auburn Sports, the Atlanta Braves, and watching Little League World Series. She was a loving soul who loved her family dearly, she loved her pets and especially loved her time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will live on in the hearts of all who knew and especially loved her.
She leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her loving husband of 61 years, Ronnie Young; her son, Randy Young (Kim); her daughter, Rhonda Lockhart (Phil); her daughter, Debbie Watson (Leon); her very adored grandchildren: Paul Young, Justin Young, Christopher Lockhart (Stephanie), Justin Lockhart (Sam), Kimberly Watson (Brandon), Kristan Watson, Cody Watson, Sam Eason (Ryan), Maranda Sellers (Brandon); eleven very adored great grandchildren; her brother, Jimmy Byard; her sister, Tommie Clegg; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Thomas Byard; sisters: Francis Dennis and Margaret Turner; father and mother-in-law, James and Katherine Young.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM in Lakewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Hwy 431 North, Phenix City, AL 36867. A service to celebrate the wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother will be at 3:00 PM following the visitation with Rev. Mike Koger officiating.
