Jack Wayne Cook, Sr. age 92, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, Georgia. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 P.M. EST (1 pm CST) Monday, April 3, 2023 in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City, Alabama with Pastor Jack Wallace officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. EST at the funeral home prior to the service.
Jack W. Cook, Sr. was born October 16, 1930 in Girard, Alabama to the late Samuel H. Cook, Sr. and Juanita Jones Cook. After graduating Central High School, he joined the U.S. Navy. He went through basic training, Class A Radioman School and boarded the USS Allen M. Sumner DD692 in San Diego, California. He served during the Korean Conflict and served two tours in the Mediterranean Sea during the European Occupation.
He was a master electrician of Phenix City, AL and the State of Georgia. He worked forty years in electrical construction. He was a member of IBEW local 779 for twenty years. He also served on the electrical examining board of Phenix CIty, AL in 1960.
His hobbies included collecting indian artifacts, genealogy and golfing. He was a charter member of the "Hole in One Gang" of Lakewood Golf Course. He made two hole in one's during his golfing career. Both were made at age 73, six months apart.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Norman K. Cook, Samuel H. Cook, Jr. and his sister, Loretta Cook Bell.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Shirley Pugh Cook, son, Jack Wayne Cook, Jr. (Vicki), daughter, Terri Obert Roland (Mike), granddaughters, Kristi Pope (John), Karri Webster (Adam), Kayli Obert Knowles (Corbin) and Kathryn Obert Riley (Micah); great grandchildren, Anna Grace Webster, Tyger Webster, Camp Knowles, Jack Knowles and great grandson, Baby Riley on the way and his sister, Peggy Gresham.
The family offers a special thanks to his wonderful caregivers that have been so helpful to him and his wife during this time; Wanda Sherman, Kathryn Jones and Sandy Herring.
