Joel Anthony “Tony” Hawkins, age 62 passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023 in Phenix City, Alabama. Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held 12:00pm EDT, Friday July 28, 2023 in Lakewood Hall at Striffler Hamby, 3770 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, AL 36867 with Pastor Clay Duck officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Tony was born December 11, 1960 in Columbus, Georgia; son of the late Joseph W. Hawkins and Jacqueline Hood Hawkins of Phenix City, AL. He was currently employed the Russell County Sanitation Department. He was formerly employed as an “over the road driver” for Old Dominion Freight Lines with his wife, Wanda. Tony graduated from Central High School in 1979.
Other than his father, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amber Hawkins Gardner, cousin, Jeffery Rollo and aunt, Linda Hood Rollo. His grandparents were Cy Hawkins and Inez Hawkins Windham and Jack and Ethel Mabry Hood.
Survivors include his mother, Jackie Hawkins, his wife, Wanda Hawkins, brother, Chris Hawkins, mother-in-law, Flora Ash, brother-in-law, William Flowers and wife, Betty and his special best friend, Randy Smith and wife, Lori, cousins, Pat Rollo and family, Kim Rollo and family.
Tony was an avid Auburn Football and NASCAR fan. He loved motorcycles, loved music of all kinds, but most of all loved his daughter, his mother, wife and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
