Mary Lee Hulsey Oakes

Mary Lee Oakes, 80 of Phenix City, AL passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at her home. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. EDT (10:00 central) in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, AL 36867, with Billy Leverett officiating. Interment will be at Ramah Baptist Church Cemetery, Banks, AL at 2:00 P.M. EDT (1:00 central). The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 P.M. unitl 7:00 P.M. EDT at the funeral home.

Mrs. Oakes was born March 21, 1930 in Alabama, daughter of the late Jasper and Pearl Oakes Hulsey. She was retired from Fieldcrest Mill with more than 30 years of service and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Central Congregation in Phenix City, AL. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Oakes.

Survivors include her daughter, Shelia Mathews and husband, Leon of Phenix City, AL, son, Jerry Oakes and wife Sheila of Columbus, GA, grandchildren, Joseph Mathews, Cynthia Manderson and husband, Carter, Benjamin Mathews, Joshua Mathews, Nicole Mathews, Chelsey Oakes, Margo Oakes, Jonathan Shriver, great grandchildren, Baylee Manderson, Evan Manderson and wife Melissa, great great grandson, Beau Manderson.
