SGT Richard Eugene Engle, 70 of Smiths Station, AL died Monday October 7, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital. A graveside service with military honors will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday October 11, 2013 at Lakeview Memory Gardens according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Engle was born January 1, 1943 in Moline, Illinois. He is the son of the late Ross and Vivian Fowler Engle. He served during the Vietnam Conflict in the U.S. Army and was retired from Dolly Madison with 36 years of service. He was a member of the Teamster's Union and the Twin City Masonic Lodge #76. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Dixon Engle, his son, Richard E. Engle, Jr., two brothers, Ernie Dale and Ross Engle, one sister, Irene Meaner.
Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Welch and husband Alfred of Smiths Station, AL, sons, Wesley Engle of Franklin, GA, Robert Engle and wife Tara of Poquoson, VA, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
