Shirley Irene Black, 78 of Seale, Alabama, passed away Monday July 22, 2013 in Columbus Hospice House. Graveside funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. (est) Thursday July 25th at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama, with the Reverend Danny Roberts officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Hwy 431 N, Phenix City, Alabama, 36867. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5pm until 7pm at the funeral home
Mrs. Black was born February 12, 1935 in Wilmington, North Carolina,daughter of the late Charles E. Spence, Sr. and Lucille V. King Spence. Shirley was one of the founding members of Avalon Woods Baptist Church in Seale, AL. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, David Joseph Black.
Survivors include her children, Paula Jean Black Cooper, Daniel Ray Black and Linda Gail Black McCain, brother, Paul W. Spence, Sr., grandchildren, David Howard Cooper, Jennifer Lynn Spence, Christy Dale Cooper, Ryan Travis Black, Lori Ann Black, Jeffrey Dwayne McCain and Nathen Keith McCain, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
