Barry Wayne Jenkins Sr.

Barry “Wayne” Jenkins Sr. was born September 8, 1954 in Jackson, Mississippi. He was the fourth of six boys born to Ernestine and Jewel Jenkins Jr. In the early sixties, the family headed out west to Compton, California. Growing up, Wayne enjoyed swimming and playing baseball. After high school, he attended trade school where he continued to build his interests in working with machinery and truck driving. In 1973 he married Donna Compton and to this union, three children were born.

Wayne spent over 20 years as a truck driver making deliveries in every one of the contiguous United States. He finally retired from truck driving in 2005 in Phoenix, AZ, but continued to keep himself just as busy. Wayne loved gardening, cooking, and fishing; but spent most of his time hanging out with his grandkids and sharing his interests with them. His most significant interest was handiwork and fixing cars. His motto was “I can fix it!” which earned him the respective nickname.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Ernestine & Jewel Jenkins Jr., brothers Isadore and George Jenkins, nephews Anthony and Martell Jenkins, niece Mercedes Jenkins, and sister-in- law Katherine Martin.

To cherish his memories, Wayne leaves his wife of 50+ years Donna Compton-Jenkins, his three children, Barry Jenkins Jr., Ebony Jenkins-Doral, and Emanuel “Kebo” Jenkins. One Daughter-in-law, Letecia Dobbins-Jenkins and one Son-in-law, Davon Doral. Eleven Grandchildren, Lance, Barry Ill, Bryant, Daija, Barrijon, DaJae, BreYajanae, Dionna, BraZhan, King, and Darrick. Five Great Grandchildren, Brae’Lynn, Bryant Jr., Calliope, Lance Jr., and Honor. Three brothers, Kenneth, Gerry Sr., and Gregory Sr. Five nephews, Isaiah, Gregory Jr, Gerry Jr, Donald, and Donte. Six nieces, Felicia, Paula, Dorothy, Tyreka, Chazne, and Ashley. One aunt, Mary-Katherine Jenkins-Spriggins, and one uncle, Thomas "TC" Jenkins, and a host of great nephews, great nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service for Barry will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Resthaven / Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens, 4310 East Southern Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85042. A memorial service will occur Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 12:00 PM at New Life Christian Church, 1913 N Wilmington Ave, Compton, CA 90222.
