It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Delma G. Hernandez— beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend—who left us on August 18, 2025, at the age of 80, after a battle with a long and painful illness.
Born on June 20, 1945, Delma’s family moved from Carlsbad, New Mexico to Arizona in the early 1960s. She shared 33 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Luis R. Hernandez. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home, filled with laughter and cherished memories. Delma and Luis cherished every moment spent where there was music and a dance floor, and now they are reunited in each other’s arms, dancing together for eternity in heaven..
Delma was talented and handy at everything she did. She enjoyed decorating her home, spending time outdoors doing yard work, thrift store shopping and sewing baby blankets for her
grandchildren, as well as making dresses, costumes, and doll clothes. Earlier in her life, she worked in the upholstery and sewing industry, followed by many years of third-shift work at Motorola, Hugh’s Helicopters and Roger’s Corporation. She later retired and helped her husband grow the family’s auto shop business.
Delma was a devoted mother to her sons, Victor M. Hernandez (Lisa) and Luis R. Hernandez Jr., and her daughter, Betty Jo Hernandez. She was also a proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt to her many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who were always the light of her life. Delma cherished every moment spent with her family, sharing her wisdom, humbleness and spreading her strength to everyone who crossed her path. She also had a deep love for the great outdoors and treasured her time visiting and living in Payson, Arizona.
Delma is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Luis R. Hernandez; her parents, Jubensio and Azucena Gonzales; her brother, Jubensio Jr; her twin brother, Joe. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as her sisters, Sue H. Jones and Linda Vigil; her brother, Speedy; and her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
A graveside service will follow from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the same location.
A reception will take place at Resthaven / Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
