

In 1943, Edith moved with her family to McNary, AZ and then to Phoenix, AZ a few years later. Edith attended Percy L. Julian Elementary School and then went on to graduate from Phoenix Technical High School in 1956 where she majored in General Business. Edith also enjoyed being a cheerleader. In 1962 Edith was appointed Superior Court Clerk, as the first African American hired in such a capacity. Prior to this appointment, Edith was employed in the Disabilities Certificate Division for the State Public Instruction Department. Edith also worked for the Maricopa County Probation Department. Edith would move to Wilmington, DE in the mid-70’s to continue her lengthy career, prior to retiring and moving back to Phoenix, AZ in 2005.,
Edith was preceded in death by her young daughter Elaine Denise Easter and two of her brothers, Esaw Long, Jr. and Leonce Edward Long Sr.
Edith leaves to cherish her memory, her husband William Starling; her children – Deborah Easter, Daphne Lorraine Easter, Traci Lark Easter, Lisa Cox and Kenneth Cox; her siblings - Leroy Long, Caroline Williams, Jacqueline Long and Gregory Long; Uncle James Beshears; Aunt Naomi Fennell; 10 Grandchildren, 10 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-great grandchild; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
