With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Ernestina “Peewee” Fatigoni on November 28th, 2024, at the age of 87 in Phoenix, Arizona. Ernestina was born on October 13, 1937 in Douglas Arizona within Cochise County, to parents Juan Serna Hernandez and Eduarda Salas Hernandez. As a young adult, her friends and neighbors called her “Tina”. Her vibrant life became deeply rooted in the South-Central Phoenix community, which also serves as a testament to her unwavering strength, resilience, and boundless love.
For two decades, Tina dedicated herself to the Phoenix Elementary School District as an instructional specialist, touching the lives of countless kindergarten families in the Garfield community, particularly those in Ms. Anderson's classroom. Tina’s commitment extended beyond the classroom. Even after retiring from the school district, she continued to serve, working another twenty years at Good Samaritan Hospital before her second retirement. This remarkable achievement is even more impressive considering the adversity she faced as a young widow raising a young family in a growing city. Tina's ability to navigate these challenges with limited resources and providing for her loved ones while contributing meaningfully to her community, speaks volumes about her character.
While Tina's health declined in recent years, her spirit remained unbroken. Her love for her family, along with an indomitable human spirit, sustained her throughout her bout with cancer. Her legacy is one of unwavering strength, love, and faith in the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, our Savior, and Almighty God, our Blessed and Merciful Father.
Tina is survived by her daughters, Eva Fatigoni and Erica Diaz; 12 grandchildren: Robert Fatigoni and his wife Maria; Jim Fatigoni; Ray Esparza and his wife Carolina; Monica Fatigoni and her life partner Daniel Larios, Milinda Fatigoni and her husband Richard Mosso, Mia Fatigoni; Michael Fatigoni, Ricky Fatigoni; Joseph Fatigoni; Christina Diaz; Chris Diaz and Richard Martinez; 18 great-grandchildren, her sister Aurora S. Hernandez, brother Bobby Hernandez, her godchild Lupita Kuleff and her daughter-in-law, Amparo Esparza. Tina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cesare “Roberto” Fatigoni; her mother, Eduarda Salas Hernandez; her father, Juan Serna Hernandez; her brother, Johnny Hernandez; and her youngest son, Ricky Fatigoni. A private memorial service and burial was held for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Tina's memory. Tina’s life, love, and faith will be cherished by all who loved her.
