Our sweet dad, Fredrick “Dale” Shreeve passed away early Monday morning March 24th. He reached the grand old age of 91. Dale was born in St. Johns, AZ, on November 13, 1933, to Roy Christopher and Eliza Susanna Shreeve. He had 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
He moved with his family to Phoenix when he was young and met Betty Ruth Thyra Harrison, his future bride. She was the sister of his good friend Lawrence.
Dale joined the army in July 1953 and was enlisted until May 1955 serving much of his time in Germany. In January 1956 he left on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to Argentina and came home in August 1958. Five months later, on January 17, 1959, Dale and Ruth were married in the Mesa, Arizona Temple for time and eternity. They had written letters to each other while Dale was away, about 5 years total. They have been blessed with 8 boys, 3 girls, 47 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 3 more babies on the way.
Early in his career Dale worked as a butcher for the original Food City down on Mohave St. He then worked for the Arizona Department of Transportation doing electrical work. He fixed traffic lights and their electrical boxes. He took part in the state’s early retirement program and retired in 1989.
Dale was a great “fixer”. He could fix anything and everything. He always had a project going on. He could do all kinds of things: electrical, plumbing, drywall, brick work, fix cars, construction and so much more. His most requested skill among his kids was fixing bikes. He would take 2 broken old bikes and make one really great bike. He was a quiet teacher who taught his children by example to be resourceful, to fix things and to solve problems. He was a true follower of the Depression-era motto: “Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.”
He loved his family and was devoted to his wife Ruth. He was kind to everyone and fun to be around.
He loved the Lord and had his own personal testimony of Jesus Christ. He taught his children the importance of honoring and supporting the Priesthood, sharing the gospel, serving others and being an example. All his children served missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Many of his grandchildren have also served. Dale and Ruth were able to go on a service mission to the Randolf House in Florence for 18 months and they loved it. He has 2 grandsons currently serving.
