Grace Nugent was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and aunt. She was the last remaining of four siblings born to Ralph and Guadalupe Flores and is survived by her only son Jason, whom she and her husband Robert joyfully adopted in 1976.
She loved children and it was a dream fulfilled to become a mother. She was a graduate of Tempe Union High School, then graduated from Arizona State University, where she obtained her degree in education and became an elementary teacher in the Tempe School District for many years.
Following her retirement, Grace continued teaching classes through the religious education program at Holy Spirit Church, where she was always very involved. She had a deep and abiding faith throughout her life and attended church regularly, enjoyed bible study, and participated in a weekly rosary group.
Grace was a caregiver to her mother, husband, and father before they each passed. She was very generous, volunteered her time to help others, and regularly contributed to several charities, yet she never wanted to inconvenience others when she herself needed help. She was resilient and always saw herself as blessed, despite many hardships endured during her life.
She was a cancer survivor for many years before she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in January of 2025. She underwent a grueling schedule of seemingly successful treatment; however, a few months later, a tumor was discovered in her brain. In May 2025, the tumor was successfully removed, but three brain lesions were subsequently discovered and she underwent additional radiation. The lesions continued to grow, and it was then that Grace chose not to pursue any further treatment. As her health declined and her body weakened, she continued to be very grateful that she experienced no pain, even until her passing when she finally succumbed to this disease in her home on May 3, 2026.
She will be forever missed by many whose lives she touched over the years with her compassion and kindness.
