Maxie and his parents moved to Arizona in 1945 where he attended Paul Lawrence Dunbar and Mary MacLeod Bethune Elementary Schools and Phoenix Union High School. While attending Phoenix Union, Maxie was a member of the track and Junior Varsity football teams.
Maxie met Dolores and they married in 1958 to 1994. Maxie had 8 children. Maxie loved his family and always spoke highly of his children.
Maxie was a hard and dedicated worker. He worked for Arizona Country Club, Time D.C. and Waste Management before retiring at an early age.
Maxie had a wonderful sense of humor. He would say things like he attended grade school with his oldest daughter (only because they were so close in age). To know Maxie, you learned that he had a witty exaggeration side as well. His friendly demeanor and willingness to help others made him very well-liked with his peers.
Maxie enjoyed barbequing and he loved that everyone wanted him to do it, but he would never give away his secret technique.
Before Maxie’s passing on October 20, 2016, he was preceded in death by his parents Elisha Cobb Jr. and Sarah Cobb; one granddaughter, Braya Whitaker; one brother, Delbert Freeman.
Maxie leaves to cherish his memory, seven daughters, Teresa Cobb, Eartha Griffin (Jimmy), Vivian Richardson, Brenda Tesfaye (Awake), Tonya Cobb, Vickie Cobb and Bonita Cobb; one son, Theodis Cobb; 18 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren; two brothers, James Cobb (Joann) and Donald Cobb; two sisters, Diane Self and Beverly Cobb and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
