

Gustafson, Melvin H. "Gus" of Tempe, passed away on July 1, 2016 at the age of 78. He was born in Polk County, Iowa, to Harold and Agnes (Deer) Gustafson on June 1, 1938. Moving to Arizona and Tempe High School in 1954, he graduated with the class of '56. He received a BS in Civil Engineering at ASU before serving two years with the U.S. Army. An ASU fan extraordinaire, he was a season ticket holder for over 50 years until heath sidelined him to the TV. He was active in the Sun Angels and an award winning woodcarver of hummingbirds, songbirds and butterflies. Gus attained Professional Engineer status during associations with Hydro Conduit Corp., and Building Products Co. in sales of underground pipe products. His parents, and brother, Gene, predeceased him. He is survived by his wife; Jerri of 59 years, two children; Karen Tripoli (Matt) and Michael (Trish), five grandchildren; Ashley Kinder (Gary), Kelsey Scott (Phil), Zachary Tripoli (Michelle), Derek Gustafson (Clair) and Jordan Gustafson (Gabby), and five precious great grandchildren, Joshua, Jackson, Kenny, Caleb and Norah, and one sister, Kay Parker, of Tempe. Friends may visit with the family at a visitation Friday evening, July 8th, at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary, 4310 E. Southern Ave. Phoenix, from 5 pm to 8 pm or at a graveside service at Tempe Double Butte Cemetery, Tempe, Saturday morning, July 9th, at 9am.
