Sam was the fifth child among twelve siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Tommie L. Stokes and Eprinon Stokes, as well as his brothers Tommie L. Stokes Jr., Roger Stokes, William Jackson, and Jonathan Stokes, and his sister Diane Robinson. His legacy lives on through his cherished survivors, including his brother, Bishop Arthur Pierce, sisters Julia Meeks, Mary Morris, Kathy Alexander, and Eunice Frazier, his sons Evan Stokes and Garrett Stokes, his daughters Samia Stokes and Eleya Stokes, and his three beloved grandchildren: Ezra, Bailey, and Avery. Sam also leaves behind many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends, all of whom were touched by his presence and spirit.
