Sharon Jane (Myers) Huggins was born June 11, 1943 in Cushing, Oklahoma to Mr. and Mrs. Clifford E. Myers. Her siblings included two brothers, Donald and Ronald. Maternal side of her family included the Wilson Family. She spent most of her first eighteen years in and around Cushing, Oklahoma, the “oil pipeline crossroads of the world.” Sharon attended kindergarten through 8th grade at Hillside Country School. She graduated in 1961 from Cushing High School and moved to Navajo, Arizona along I-40 with her parents when her dad was sent to run a natural gas facility there by Deep Rock Petroleum Company. This move changed her life forever when fate opened a door to the “man of her dreams.”
After just 6 months of dating she married Charles (Chuck) Huggins in 1962 in Sanders, Arizona. They then moved to Globe, Arizona to start their life together. Soon they would add a daughter to their family, Lisa. Sharon would go on to become very active in Democratic politics and run campaigns in Gila County for Governor Babbitt and Senator Deconcini, along with many others. Sharon was very proud to be one of the founders of Apache Days held in Globe to Celebrate the members of the San Carlos Apache tribe. Sharon and Chuck then moved to Phoenix, where Sharon supported Chuck in his position as the Secretary of the AFL-CIO. She went on to work at the State of Arizona at the Department of Administration. After retirement she served her most important role as grandma to Hannah and Sarah. They were the light of her life.
Hannah and Sarah, went on to graduate from college, one from U of A and other from ASU…providing a divided house during her favorite pastime, viewing any kind of sporting event. She was a huge fan of not only Arizona sports, but all things Oklahoma.
Sharon lived a beautiful life but sadly struggled for many years with chronic medical issues that claimed her life in the end. After many years, she was able to join the love of her life in heaven to watch over her family.
Sharon is survived by her daughter, Lisa Huggins-Hubbard, granddaughter Hannah Huggins-Hubbard, and Sarah Huggins-Hubbard, soon to marry Max Honebrink. Brothers: Don Myers of Houston, Texas and Ronald Myers of Pahrump, Nevada.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. We deeply love and miss her.
