
She is survived by her sister Vesta Lund, nieces Charolyn Lund Mize, Carolyn Lund Haskin, nephew Robert Lund, six great nieces and ten great-great nieces and nephews.
Vida was born January 17, 1930 in Highway, NM to Harry H. and Mary Wilhite. They Moved to Miami AZ In 1942. Vida graduated Miami High School where her Father taught and Mother worked. She attended University of Arizona undergraduate, Arizona State University and University of Colorado for her graduate degrees. She Moved to Tempe in 1952 to become the librarian at the original Tempe High School. Married Howard R. Bernard in 1954. In 1964 she helped design the Library at McClintock High School where she was Head Librarian until 1987 when she retired. Vida was a mentor to many young librarians as the school district grew. In particular Sheila Walrath and Pat Whatley. They thought of her as the "Dean" of their libraries and have remained close friends through the years.
She and her husband Howard enjoyed being with family and sharing their passions with all, especially their nieces and nephew. Theater, tennis, water skiing, snow skiing and sailing -- a long time dream. After her husband's death at the end of 1999, she moved into an apartment, played tennis twice a week, played duplicate bridge 2-3 times each week became a cat lover and continued to read 3-4 books a week. It was only in the last year that she needed to move into an assisted living home.
She was a caring and independent spirit. She will be missed.
