Alice Tapia was born on January 4, 1923 in San Antonio, Texas. Her parents were Francisco and Rosario Flores. She was the youngest of seven siblings. She had three brothers Frank, Henry and Luis as well as three sisters Josephine, Carmen and Espi. The Flores family moved from San Antonio, Texas to Los Angeles, California in 1925. At five years old she attended the local elementary school, then was promoted to La Fayette Junior High, and graduated from Jefferson High School. Growing up during the depression era all of her siblings had to work in order to contribute towards the household income. When Alice was old enough to work she found a job at The Dr. Ross Dog Food canning factory in Los Angeles. When her family had enough money saved they would travel to Mexico City to visit their relatives. In 1946 Alice met the love of her life Alvino Tapia. They dated for two years and were married on December 18, 1948. In December of 1950 their only child Irene was born. Alvino and Alice worked hard together to save enough money to purchase their first home in 1953. She worked at Curtline Curtain Company sewing curtains with her sisters Carmen and Espi. After ten years of employment Alice left her job to be a stay at home mother. One of Alice's favorite hobbies was to bake, until her husband bought her a Singer sewing machine. She became an accomplished seamstress even though she would never admit it. Later on she also became exceptionally well at knitting and crocheting and would make blankets and sweaters for her family. Alice and her husband would travel often with family and friends. They enjoyed taking vacations to Cancun Mexico, the Caribbean, Las Vegas and Laughlin just to name a few. They were also well known for their dancing which they enjoyed doing at every family event. Then in 1970 she became a grandmother to the first of her four grandchildren. She was very proud to be a grandmother to Davy, Debbie, Ryan and Kimberly. Later, at the age of eighty-three she became a great-grandmother to the first of seven great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with Addy, Jacob, Jared, Isaac, Nolan, Nathaniel and newly born Evan who she was looking forward to meet but unfortunately passed four days after his birth on July 24, 2013. Alice is survived by her husband Alvino Tapia and her daughter Irene Jaime. Alice was blessed to have lived ninety years with her family and friends and be married for sixty four in a half years. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to her nurses Angela and Dianne from the Gerinet Healthcare Hospice for their support throughout the two years she was cared for.
