On Thursday January 5, 2012, Juanita Mauricio Chapa, left her earthly body and appeared in the presence of Almighty God, where she now rejoices! While we grieve the loss of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, we can remember her with good memories of the life that she lived. Although Juanita’s body was frail, her spirit and will were strong. She was kind, funny, generous, always had a helping hand and God loving. Her faith in God helped her through trials and tribulations and comforted her in death. She was a friend to many and enemy to none and will be deeply missed.
Juanita was born in Whitsett, Texas on June 24, 1928, to Juan and Genoveva Mauricio. Her siblings include Gil Mauricio (dec.), Felipe Mauricio (dec.), Bonefacio Mauricio (dec.), Catarino “CB” Mauricio (dec.), Jose Maria Mauricio (dec.), Luis Mauricio (dec.),Felicidad Mauricio (dec.), Joe Mauricio (dec.), Domingo Mauricio (dec.), and Mary Mauricio Valdez.
A student in the 1940ʼs, she lived during World War II and met her husband Ruben F. Chapa in her early 20’s. On May 29, 1954, Juanita married Ruben and they started their family in Richmond, California. Eventually, they moved their young family to La Puente, California. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Pico Rivera to be near Juanita’s sister and her husband Mary and Adan Valdez.
Juanita made the most of her life, not only by raising a family but also by having a successful career. She worked for the government as a secretary and eventually transferred to the US Postal service from which she later retired.
Juanita loved spending time with family, playing cards and visiting the casino slot machines. One activity that she particularly enjoyed was watching the Lakers, as she was an avid fan. She always made time to attend family events and was very supportive to her children and grandchildren.
Juanita was a member of St. Hilary’s Catholic Church in Pico Rivera. During the course of her life she was a member of the Perpetual Adoration and spent countless hours praying for others in need.
She is survived by her husband Ruben F. Chapa, son Victor A. Chapa, son David G. Chapa and his wife Becky Alvarenga, daughter Sandra M. Pineda and her husband Sal E. Pineda, grandchildren Allyssa M. Herrera and Roger Matthew Herrera IV and sister Mary Valdez, along with several nieces, nephews.
