Doris Holmes, age 97, of Groves, Texas passed away on Friday January 31, 2020. Doris was born August 8, 1922. She was a native of Port Arthur and a member of First United Methodist Church of Groves. She attended Port Arthur College. A former employee of the Port Arthur School District, Mrs. Holmes was a secretary at Woodrow Wilson Jr. High School. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Eastern Star and the Red Hat Society. Her favorite pastime was to crochet and knit.
Mrs. Holmes is survived by; son Connie Ed (Elizabeth) Holmes, III of Groves; daughters Karla Rae (Frank) of San Antonio, Elizabeth Karleen Holmes of Port Neches, De'edra Robbie Holmes of Groves and her sister Jean Jeanette Cannon of Nederland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Connie Ed Holmes, Jr; her siblings Hubert C. Gabourel and James R. Gabourel.
A Gathering of family and friends be held Monday, February 3, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grammier Oberle Funeral Home. A Funeral service to honor Mrs. Holmes will occur Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Grammier Oberle. The interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
