Jacquelyn "Jackie" Lee Dawson Cooksey, age 91, of The Woodlands, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Jackie was born in Port Arthur, Texas, to Colleen Jackson and Troy Dawson, and throughout her life, she carried with her the warmth, strength, and grace that marked her beginnings.
Jackie dedicated her heart and soul to her career in nursing, caring for others with a compassion that touched countless lives. Outside of her professional life, she found great joy in the simple pleasures of cooking, crafting, and, most especially, celebrating Christmas. Her home would sparkle with the glow of lights and the charm of more than 150 Santa figurines, each one lovingly collected and displayed. The holiday season was her favorite time of year, a reflection of her generous spirit and the joy she found in bringing others together.
Above all else, Jackie’s greatest passion was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who never missed an opportunity to show her love and support.
She is survived by her loving children: Curry Cooksey and his wife Susan, Charles Troy Cooksey, and her daughter Colleen Broussard and her husband Kirk. Jackie also leaves behind nine beloved grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, along with a host of extended family and dear friends who will continue to cherish her memory.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Cooksey; her son, Barry Cooksey; her father, Troy Dawson; and her mother, Colleen Jackson.
A gathering of family and friends to honor Jackie’s life will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, 4841 39th Street, Port Arthur, Texas 77642. A celebration of her beautiful life will take place on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM, also at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Jackie will be laid to rest at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, 618 Block Street, Port Neches, Texas 77619.
Jackie’s legacy of love, kindness, and the joy she brought into every room will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
