James was born on December 20, 1944, in Port Arthur, Texas to Christine Militch Smith and Fred Jack Smith. James was a retired Port Arthur Police Officer for many years and then owned and operated the Smith Pawn Shop on Woodworth Blvd. in Port Arthur. James loved working but found time to fish and spend time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Edisa Delacruz-Smith of Groves; sons, Michael Smith and his wife Monica of Groves and Bruce Smith of Illinois; daughter, Kelly Smith Villareal of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Steve Smith and his wife Wanda of Kingwood, Texas, sisters, Susie Jayroe and husband Charles of Dallas, Texas and Sylvia Varnum of Houston; grandchildren, Jack Smith, Carol Ann Smith and Krystal Smith.
Private Cremation Services will held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur, Texas.
