

Dr. Joseph Charles Fontana, 92, of Bryan College Station passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 at St. Joseph Regional Healthcare Center in Bryan, Texas. Joe was born April 26, 1922 in Port Arthur, Texas to Antonio and Josephine Fontana. He enjoyed reading, listening to music, and watching Texas A&M football. Joe loved to travel around the world and loved the beach. He served in the Armed Forces in WWII and graduated from Texas A & M University with a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering. While attending college Joe was a music promoter for various groups. He was a Professor at Texas A & M University and was very well liked by his students because of his unique teaching style. Joe was a Southwest Conference Referee and had several local businesses in Bryan College Station.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice Fontana; and a brother, Basil Fontana. He is survived by a sister, Lena Doyle; nephew, Greg Fontana and his wife Tara; niece, Carolyn Menn; great-nephews, Bryan Menn, Troy Menn, and Zachary Menn.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, Port Arthur, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, with entombment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves, Texas.
